5 Ways To Show Your Dogs You Love Them

It’s February, the month of love. And who do we love more than our constant companions, our couch cuddlers, our fuzzy little space heaters? Your four-legged friend is one of the most loyal friends you will ever have. Show him some love this Valentine’s Day and beyond.

The good news? Showing your dog you love him is the easiest thing you’ll ever do. Not only are pups pretty easy to please, but they already love you unconditionally. Here are five ways to show your dog just how happy you are to know him.

1. Train your dog using positive reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement is an excellent way to communicate with your dog. Properly trained dogs tend to live longer, and guiding him with love is the best way to go about it. Use his favorite forms of motivation, such as treats, playtime or good old-fashioned praise. He will love to make you happy, and that will make YOU happy.

2. Learn your dog’s language.

Your dog can’t use words to communicate, so pay attention to those nonverbal cues. Some dogs don’t really enjoy being hugged, and some get nervous around strangers. By learning how your dog communicates, you can reduce the stress in his life, and that will increase his trust for you.

3. Rub his ears.

Have you ever known a dog to not love this? Exactly.

4. Let him sleep with you.

Neuroscientist Gregory Berns, who is the author of a book called How Dogs Love Us, claims that sleeping with a human is the ultimate display of love and trust our dogs can give because that is when they are at their most vulnerable. Plus, it’s nice and cozy, especially in the wintertime.

5. Just tell him you love him.

We hope you already tell your dogs you love them. They are amazing creatures and they deserve to hear it every day.
